Administrative Medical Assisting 12th

This course is the second year for our students seeking a Medical Office Assistant Certification.  Students develop skills in computer and transcription technology that are needed for work in an office or hospital. They are trained in medical terminology, communication skills, accounting, record keeping and medical coding and participate in an eight-week internship in a hospital or physicians’ office as available.

 

Course Description

The Administrative Medical Office Medical Assistant Certification Course is designed to prepare the student for certification and employment as an Administrative Medical Assistant. This two year course focus on understanding and demonstration of the knowledge and skills needed to function as a Medical Assistant to include the following areas below in the course outline.

Medical Office Assistant is a two year course to prepare students to work along beside doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide medical office patient care in a variety of healthcare environments. The Medical Office Assistant Certification plays a vital role in the healthcare delivery setting often having more patient contact than any other team member including doctors and nurses.

The course prepares students to work as an entry-level Medical Office Assistant certification in a clinic, Doctor’s office, hospital, and long term care facility. This program is taught with a combination of lecture, power point & practical exercises in the medical office assisting laboratory and with real-world experience during the internship portion of training conducted off-campus at medical facilities.

 

Eligibility

The course is open to seniors who have successfully completed the Clinical Medical Assisting cluster and all of the following prerequisites:

  • Anatomy and Physiology

  • Biology

  • Chemistry

  • Health Science Clinical

  • Health Science Diagnostic

  • Principles of Health Science

 

Internship

After a semester of learning in the classroom, the AMA student will have an opportunity to participate in a non-paid internship at various hospitals, clinics and health care facilities within the Dallas Metroplex.

During this internship, students will participate in hands-on skills alongside professionals and learn more about medical assisting in the work based environment.
