Course Description

Medical Office Assistant is a two year course to prepare students to work along beside doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide medical office patient care in a variety of healthcare environments. The Medical Office Assistant Certification plays a vital role in the healthcare delivery setting often having more patient contact than any other team member including doctors and nurses.

The course prepares students to work as an entry-level Medical Office Assistant certification in a clinic, Doctor’s office, hospital, and long term care facility. This program is taught with a combination of lecture, power point & practical exercises in the medical office assisting laboratory and with real-world experience during the internship portion of training conducted off-campus at medical facilities.

 

Eligibility

The course is open to juniors who have successfully completed all of the following prerequisites:

  • Anatomy and Physiology

  • Biology

  • Chemistry

  • Health Science Clinical

  • Health Science Diagnostic

  • Principles of Health Science

 

Internship

After a semester of learning in the classroom, the CMA student will have an opportunity to participate in a non-paid internship at various hospitals, clinics and health care facilities within the Dallas Metroplex.

During this internship, students will participate in hands-on skills alongside professionals and learn more about medical assisting in the work based environment.
