Lifetime Nutrition & Wellness 11th & 12th

This one-credit course is an introductory course that allows student to use the principles of lifetime wellness and nutrition to help make informed choices that promote wellness as well as pursue careers related to education and training, human service, health science, and the importance of exercise as a regular part of  life.  Students are encouraged to participate in extended learning experiences and projects such as career and technical student organizations and other leadership or extracurricular organizations.  This course is open to any Townview junior or senior.

 

Mental Health 11th & 12th

Mental health services, careers, history, agencies and current issues and the difference between functional and dysfunctional behaviors are introduced in this 1/2 credit class offered to junior and senior students.  Traditional and emerging treatment modalities are explored.

 

 

Extra-Curricular Activities

Academic Decathalon

This is a program that provides high school students an opportunity to experience the challenges of rigorous academic competition through participation in team activities. In addition, the Academic Decathlon involves members of the business/industry as active supporters of a program promoting academic excellence. Long term relationships, developed through joint participation, benefit the students and the community.

 

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)

FCCLA  is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

 

FitLIFE

FitLIFE is a health and fitness club for students attending the School of Health Professions at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center. The purpose of the club is to promote healthy living through exercise, proper nutrition and overall healthy habits.

The goal of FitLIFE is to get students moving, develop healthy eating habits and promote healthy habits in general.  As a member of FitLIFE, students will not only participate in physical activity and practice nutritious eating but they also help to spread the healthy message of living a FitLIFE to others in their community.

 

Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA)

HOSA is a national student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA's goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions. HOSA is 100% health care!

 

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

 

In addition, students will be able to participate in the following activities with students from the other 5 schools at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center:
