Pharmacy Technician 12th

This state certification course teaches students the basic skills to work in a retail or hospital pharmacy.  At the end of the course students will be eligible for the Pharmacy Tech certification exams.

 

Course Description

This course will provide an overview of the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of prescription and nonprescription medications. Course content will emphasize drug classifications, drug action, drug administration, ethical and legal issues and safety. Students will develop an understanding of pharmaceutics and its impact on the health care industry. Career options in pharmacy will also be explored.

 

Eligibility

The course is recommended for students in Grades 11-12 who have successfully completed the cluster and all of the following prerequisites:

  • Biology

  • Chemistry

  • Health Science Clinical

  • Health Science Diagnostic

  • Principles of Health Science

Internship

Upon successful completion of prerequisites, students will participate in a non-paid student internship in various pharmacies throughout the DFW area.
